SWAY is a collaboration between a musician and painter. Emilie Weibel is a sound performer, vocalist and composer from Switzerland. Clara Claus is a visual artist and performer from France. Currently living in Brooklyn, the two artists bound around a mutual love for improvisation, and decided to improvise together feeding on each other’s mediums.
The duo creates an improvised sound and visual composition responding on each other’s pacing and instinct. Clara paints live on a succession of wood panel built in an horizontal sculpture. The sound emitted by Claus’ gesture and pace on the wood is then processed through a contact mic with an SP 404, a loop pedal and a Volca beat allowing Emilie’s body to respond to the juxtaposition of color and shapes, and permitting these triggers to find expression in her voice and machines.
